Pregnancy Related Acne, Gone for Good...
Dr. Michele Brown OB/GYN, Founder Beauté de Maman

What is Pregnancy Related Acne?

While pregnancy can be a wonderful and exciting time for women, skin changes are one of the hallmarks, with most women developing some form of acne during pregnancy. Pregnancy acne is most often the result of substantial hormonal increases, and can affect each woman in her own way. Oily skin and acne are very common and often a source of discomfort, embarrassment, low self-esteem and depression. Acne can begin to make itself apparent right away, or take its time, and it can last until even after delivery in some cases.

How does pregnancy acne differ from the kind found in adolescents?
Acne in pregnancy differs greatly from that encountered in the teenager. The pregnant woman often presents with comedones (blackheads) and papular lesions (small red bumps) on the lower face, chin and jaw. These are mostly superficial, as opposed to teenage acne which presents itself with deep cystic lesions (whiteheads) on the upper face and forehead. As these are two different conditions, they each dictate their own treatment approach.

Radiate an Unblemished Glow During Pregnancy

Now that you understand what causes skin changes in pregnancy, it becomes more clear why pregnant women should only use a skin care regimen developed specifically for them. Of course, there are many products on the market proven to be effective in treating acne, but many of those formulas contain chemicals that are not okay for pregnant women to use. Three of the main ingredients used to treat teenage acne are Accutane, Retin-A and Tetracycline. Each of these has been linked to negative fetal development when used by pregnant women.

Beauté de Maman Facial Scrub and Acne Cream Combo does not contain any of these potentially harmful ingredients often included in products made for teenage acne. Both the facial scrub and the cream contain tried and true herbal ingredients that combine into a powerful, pregnancy-acne fighting regimen that is completely safe to use during pregnancy, for both you and your baby.

What Makes This Acne Regimen So Effective?

  • Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has been used as a topical antiseptic in different cultures throughout the world. Today, with other antiseptic options available, tea tree oil has garnered attention for its anti-microbial and anti-fungal uses. It has shown to be very effective against bacteria on skin, one of main causes of acne. Also, unlike peroxide based ingredients, tea tree oil does not stain bedding or clothes.

  • Avocado Ester

Avocado ester offers a wide variety of benefits including naturally occurring vitamins and a soft, smooth texture unlike any other. Avocados are also very high in unsaponifiables, which moisturize and soften the skin, as well as prevent and reduce scars.

  • Lavender Oil

Lavender oil aside from the wonderful scent it produces, has long since been believed to carry therapeutic characteristics as well. In some cultures, the extract from the lavender flower is applied to sunburns and insect stings as a natural antiseptic and pain reliever. The most common use of lavender, of course, is for the calming and relaxing effect it has in reducing daily anxiety.

  • Peppermint Oil

Peppermint Oil Peppermint oil, has been used for thousands of years with hundreds of applications. Today it is often used in skin care products to utilize it high menthol content, which brings about that gentle cooling sensation, common with all mints. Peppermint oil helps to sooth irritated skin, leaving it feeling refreshed and clear.

  • Exfoliating Beads

Microbeads are a key ingredient in any exfoliating facial scrub. The gentle abrasive quality helps to remove dead skin cells and loosen grime, in order to let the other ingredients do their jobs. As opposed to chemical exfoliators, microbeads allow each individual to decide how gentle or vigorous they prefer their facial scrub to be.

No Morning Sickness Today!
  • The facial scrub was moisturizing and gave a clean, fresh feeling to my skin. The cream was not greasy, went on smoothly, could use it with regular moisturizer without it clashing.

  • When I was pregnant with my daughter my skin did not get that pregnancy glow. I broke out worse than ever! Since there are so many products you can’t use when pregnant I was eager to find something natural but effective to keep from getting the terrible breakouts and redness that I had the first round. I started using the facial scrub when I was about 5 months along. I really liked it because of the tiny micro beads sort of scrubbing feeling. They weren’t too large so they didn’t feel like it was too harsh. I ran out after about 2 months or so and I noticed my skin started to break out again so I immediately ordered a second batch. The face and body cream was my favorite, mostly because of the smell and the clean, fresh feeling. Not too oily and it didn’t tingle at all so I know it would also work for those with sensitive skin. It kept my skin glowing and clear and everyone knows when mom is happy, everyone is happy!
